The changes since I experienced PresenceAtWork’s leadership programmes have been noticeable. In a recent strategic meeting that I led as managing director, various people came to me afterwards to acknowledge the confidence I project. And I think this has to do with one of the key insights from my Conscious Evolution Leadership retreat: understanding and wholeheartedly accepting who I am. 

This is particularly relevant to me as a female leader. Today there is still this old paradigm of leadership primarily focused on results. And I am ambitious and I am driving for results too. But I’m no longer afraid to show more feminine leadership qualities, like empathy and compassion. I am that combination and when I express that fully, I feel more confident, more authentic and invite others to be themselves with me.    

The programmes are about integrating your whole self into the workplace. Not only your rational mind. I could see this play out in our teams during the Collective Leadership retreats: We really opened our hearts to one another. I am convinced that the bonds we created then, got us through the pandemic. We were 100% virtual, but knowing each other’s stories and strengths helped us stay connected. I had not seen that kind of team cohesion in any other programme before.

I think it all comes down to the culture you want to create as a leader. Do you want an environment that unlocks people’s potential? A culture in which everyone feels empowered to contribute to business results? Then you’ve got to quieten the inner critic. Both for yourself and your team. It’s amazing what’s possible when you do that, so feel the fear and do it anyway.
